The answer could be classified under two different eras: The era of early call for Islam by prophet Muhammad and the era after prophet Muhammad death including current era.

  • During the era early call for Islam by prophet Muhammad, all who declared their Islam faith; while in Makkah (or Mecca in English) where tortured and deprived from their properties and their human rights, including prophet Muhammad whom was planned to assassinated. When Muslims and the prophet migrated from Makkah (or Mecca) to Medina, they were not allowed to get any of their money or properties with them. However, the natives of Medina were generous with them and they shared with them all essentials of life. When, Muslims were attacked by the Pagans, it was logic to distribute what Muslims gained from the pagans among themselves for compensations. (although the distribution was partly to the winners and the other part to the poor people (Muslims and non Muslims). Prophet Muhammad never started any war against any of the Arab tribes or territories but was only defending against the attacks. Even, when he moved to Mecca with his army to allow Muslims to practice their pilgrimage in Mecca, he didn't kill a single person and he forgave all the Meccas. Even he and Muslims didn't take back any of their former properties and after pilgrimage they all returned back to Medina.
  • During the era after prophet Muhammad death, there was no need to give money to converts to Islam. Quran says ' No Compulsion in religion'. Otherwise how do you explain that many famous; religious, scientific, and rich figures; convert to Islam till present. It may be the opposite, many poor and needy people in Africa and Asia convert to other non Muslim religions seeking refugee, health care, study fellowships, food, and homes.

Why are Muslim converts called Abu Hamza?

Muslim converts are not called "Abu Hamza". Muslim converts are called Muslims as is everyone else who follows Islam. The point of origin into the fold of Islam doesn't determine what one is called (like Abu Hamza), in the eyes of a Muslim, you are a fellow brother; a Muslim.Abu Hamza is an Arabic name/alias which means "the father of Hamza" establishing the fact that there is no co-relation between the name to Muslim converts.
