Were christians against colonization

This is an interesting subject that is conveluted and has many "correct" answers. In short I will say both yes and no, but I will also give more detail into this subject. If you have a more specific time frame in your head then it would be best to post that or message me at a later date. Christians have been on both sides of colonization over the years and this is a little essay to explain why.

I will start off by looking at times that Christians were for colonization. In 1621 the Pilgrims made the cross from Europe to the "New World" to create a God fearing colony that would allow them to worship the way they wanted to. Later in the 1800's missionary colonies began to make ground in Africa, China, and India in an attempt to spread God's word around the world. So in this light Christian were all for colonization.

On the other hand they were against some colonization. On this level is was not as organized or discussed in History. However there were deinitely christians against colonies when they looked at the impact that it had on a society (ie. slavery). On these subjects the church did not have a strong stance against colonization, and it rested mostly on the wills of inidividual churches, peoples, or denominations (ie. Southern Baptists, Quakers).

So yes Christianity has been for and against colonization. My conlcusion is that is tended to lean towards colonization over the years, but it still stood against it in some ways.
