On a 1998 Ford Explorer :
The automatic Transmission Fluid dipstick is located near the firewall , on the passenger side of the engine , in the engine compartment
Pull out the dipstick and use a funnel to add transmission fluid ( the type used should be engraved into the dipstick )
as far as I know you can not add fluid because the trans. is a self enclosed trans.(if you have slippage, its time for repair.
Add fluid by using a funnel or similar device, by way of the auto trans fluid dipstick tube.
if scheduled maintence has never been done. dont do it. it will mess it up. trans will fail. just add more trans fluid.
auto or man? auto change trans filter and add new trans fluid I'd use lucis trans fluid. cable could be streached
