The pomegranate first grew in Iran, and has since been cultivated throughout the middle east, India, the drier parts of Southeast Asia, Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, and even in parts of Africa. It is also grown in Latin America and California. It prefers warm, dry climates, as wetter areas tend to encourage root decay from fungal diseases.
