After two years of all-out, round the clock effort the US had only enough fissile material for three nuclear devices. There was a test explosion at Alamogordo, New Mexico, July 16, 1945. This lit up the night sky brilliantly and was heard hundreds of miles away. The military explained it away by telling the press that an ammunition dump had exploded. The test was not a true bomb, as it was not like the design of the bombs dropped the next month, and was not dropped from a plane. The device was placed on a steel tower and exploded by remote control. Up to the moment it went off, no one could be absolutely certain it would work, or, that if it did work, that it would not set off an uncontrollable chain reaction that would destroy the entire planet.

Where was the Atomic bombing site?

There are many site. You mean what? The actual use of war or the one tested by US before the actual use against Japan. If u meant the test before using against Japan @ World War 2, then it is in Socorro, New Mexico (White Sands Missile Range, near Alamogordo.) on 16 July 1945. If you meant the actual usage against Japanese, it is on Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively (Aug 6 1945 and Aug 9 1945 respectively.)The Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki .

What were the places the atomic bomb was used?

Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan. It was also tested in the Southwest US and out in the Pacific Ocean.

Where was the atomic bomb tested before hiroshima?

Alamagordo, New Mexico

Why was the first atomic bomb used?

The US tested one atomic bomb in the United States (in the desert), before using two against the Japanese in August 1945. The attacks on Hiroshima & Nagasaki were carried out, allegedly, to convince the Japanese Army leaders (who ran Japan) to accept the terms of surrender demanded by the Allies. However it had been discussed that dropping such a weapon over Japan's Inland Sea as a demonstration would have had the same effect and thus the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a cynical act to test the weapons in war conditions.

Where was the atomic bombs first tested in Japan?

It was not tested. It was USED. We first did a test in the desert far south in the U.S., then used it on Japan to force its surrender to end World War 2.It was used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombs reduced the cities to flat plains with some concrete and ashes.

Can crops be grown on land that has been struck by a nuclear bomb?

Absolutely. However they should be tested for radiological contamination before being eaten. In both Hiroshima and Nagasaki bamboo naturally sprouted from their rhizome in less than a week after the attacks.

Where did they use the nuclear weapons?

While nuclear weapons have been tested quite frequently in the past by numerous countries, they have only been used twice in wartime. Both times were by the United States of America against Japan during World War II. The bomber "Enola Gay" deployed the "Little Boy", an untested gun-type uranium powered nuclear weapon against Hiroshima, Japan on Monday, August 6, 1945 The bomber "Bocks Car" deployed the "Fat Man", a previously-tested implosion-type plutonium powered nuclear weapon against Nagasaki, Japan on Thursday, August 9, 1945. Kokura was the primary target, but the weather did not favour dropping the bomb there, so the secondary target, Nagasaki was chosen. The DoE estimates that 70,000 people died in the Hiroshima bombing, and 40,000 died in the Nagasaki bombing.

What did Hiroshima and Nagasaki have in common in World War 2?

Both were targets of atomic bomb attacks by the US: Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 and Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. These are the only two instances of the use of atomic bombs in warfare, and used two of the first three atomic bombs ever built (one was tested at Alamagordo NM on July 16, 1945).

Atomic bomb was used where at in the world.?

The atomic bomb has been tested in many parts of the world but it was used as a weapon in World War II when one each was dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

Did the us drop an atomic bomb on Iwo Jima?

Yes. America tested the first atomic bomb in New Mexico, then dropped two on Japan to effectively end World War 2. Russia began testing atomic bombs in 1949 and many other nations have also tested them. No one besides America has used them in war.

Was there nuclear fall out from nagasaki?

Yes, on August 9, 1945, three days after Hiroshima was bombed. It was a different type of bomb from Hiroshima though. The bomb dropped on Hiroshima was made by splitting uranium atoms, and was nicknamed Little Boy. However, the bomb dropped on Nagasaki was plutonium. It was nicknamed Fat Man and was the same type as the first A-bomb tested at Alamogordo, NM.
