Yes, basically all the Us Generals in Western Europe, several British & German Generals. Google, you will see many named.
He is our Great Grandfather and we know he fought in the Battle of the bulge just cannot find any documentation stating the soldiers in this battle. Can you help us?
Yes
None. The Russians did not participate in the battle. The Battle of the Bulge occurred on the Germany's "western front" in Belgium. The opposing forces were exclusively German and American. The battle did not involve any Russian forces or formations.
The Battle of the Bulge didn't happen in WW1, It happened towards the end of WW2 in Europe. It was a key WW2 battle as it was Hitler's last major offensive move to regain any control on the western front.
Every g.i. Had to score points to "earn" a discharge home. 85 points was the benchmark; which could be accumulated by ribbons, years of service and surviving the battle of the bulge! By using one free hand and holding a picture of rita hayworth, betty grable, or Jane Russell, with the other hand...this would "solve" any issues g.i.'s had with the battle with bulges!
Romania had surrendered to the Russians in August of 1944, and joined the Allies in September that same year. The Battle of the Bulge began December 16, so there would not be any organized Romanian military units at the Bulge fighting with the Germans. It is also unlikely that the Allied armies contained any Romanian units as their army was not that large and had suffered tremendous losses fighting the Russians. What remained would continue to fight in the east against their former German handlers.
The youngest soldiers who fought in the Battle of the Bulge would be 85, or turning 85 this year. That would mean that some of them still are left, but their numbers would be diminishing rapidly. I don't know a figure for how many soldiers from that Battle are still alive, but they now say that almost 1,500 Veterans of World War II are dying every day. If you run into any World War II veterans - thank them.
At least 80,000 troops and more than 500 irreplaceable tanks. Plus any chance to take the offensive again, any chance to seize the initiative, any chance to win the war.
There were 23,218 US personnel missing or known captured during the Bulge. I do not believe that any comprehensive roster of these has ever been compiled.
I think maybe Battle of the Bulge might be one of the most important battles in World War 2 because was a big and the bloodiest battles in World War 2.The Germans attacked small areas of the Allies,or at least I have been told. Also I think maybe the battle for the Atlantic that was December 1939-1944 because I believe it was a battle on sea,and it had something to do with German ships sinking, but I could be wrong.I think of any other battles I'll post.
He had over 50 generals. Did you have any particular group in mind.
By any chance, are you taking Ap Euro in Mrs. Connor's class?
