Most of the illnesses we have today were around in the Middle Ages. There were no effective cures for many diseases, so people tended to die rather younger than they do today. The infant mortality rate was high because of sicknesses as well. There were diseases that were rarer then, including many forms of cancer, and this may be because most medieval people did not live long enough to get such diseases, or it may be because people are exposed to toxins today that were not around in those days.
