U.S.A and RUSSIA and it wasn't really a war
A Cold War is a war without open military conflict between two or more nations which includes spying, sabotage, and economic and political brinksmanship designed to bring the opposing nation(s) to submission or failure. A Proxy War is a war where the nations in military conflict are being directly and often primarily funded by greater nations who are often in a cold war against each other. This allows for military conquest without the need to send one's own troops into battle. The US and the USSR used this strategy in nations around the world during their cold war. This was done most notably in South and Central America and The Middle East.
This is correct. However the Cold War and World War 2 are long over and the Eastern Bloc Nations are no longer under Communist Rule of the Soviet Union.
Stalin wanted to keep the Eastern European Nations. He wanted them to be ruled by the USSR. Winston Churchill and Truman and FDR wanted him to go home and leave those nations alone so they could become democratic nations. That sparked the beginning of the Cold War and the nuclear arms race.
Cold War
Depending on any number of variables, any war can expand or contract. Post WW 2 saw an expansion of new nations as old colonial empires gave way to new nations. Both sides of the Cold War sought friends and alliances among the new nations that were scattered around the world.
