You can research colleges and universities by name, or by programs of study, or by geographical location, size, or combinations of part or all of them. The site will provide you with a list of institutions based on your request. It will give you the schools background, accreditation, degree offerings, programs of study (majors), entrance requirements, tuition and fees, financial assistance, room and board, athletic programs, school activities, etc., and a link to each institutions official web page. When choosing a college or university within the United States, make sure the institution has a regional accreditation. With a regional accreditation you can be assured the coursework and degree you complete will be recognized by all other colleges and universities as well as employers. Below I have listed the six regional accrediting agencies and their geographical areas of responsibility. I am disclosing the below so you do not become a victim of educational scams, institutions that are nothing more than diploma mills, or that do not have the best accreditation, and are eager to take your money for a degree that is worthless. Make sure the institution is accredited by one of following responsible agencies.

· Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools - Educational institutions in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, as well as schools for American children in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
· New England Association of Schools and Colleges - Educational institutions in the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont).
· North Central Association of Colleges and Schools - Educational institutions in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Mexico, South Dakota, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

For emergency shelter or housing, try looking up and contacting womens groups such as womens rights or women against abuse types of groups. They usually have some form of temporary housing, or can refer you to another organization that does.
I would need to know where you are to answer this to my best ability. If you have ITT Tech in your area, they are the BEST, par none, for all they offer. It is my experience that if you have community colleges as fine as we have in NH and Massachusetts, your best bet is your local "tech" or 2 yr college. You can check online for how well your local colleges are rated and accredited, and if you can pass those credits over to a 4 yr college.
Try applying at another housing program in different county. some counties can get you in faster, have shorter waiting list. Your local hospitals, food banks have influence as well.

It varies. Depending on if you live in on-campus housing, or off campus, if you live in the dorms or in apartments, if you live in a single room, double, or triple (or even a quad), where you live on campus, such as at "the village" or at a college like Cowell college, if you have a meal plan, and which classes you take and what books are required for those classes. As you can see, there are many factors that determine the cost. In a general sense, the cost of living on campus, without financial aid, is AROUND $6,000 per quarter, and there are 3 quarters in the normal school year. This does not include books, but does include the 5-day meal plan. Books typically add about $200 (or more) to the cost.
