What DNA do Jewish people carry Mother's or Father's?

It doesn't matter if you are Jewish or not but the DNA you carry is from your mother's DNA found in her mitochondria. It sounds a little odd but there is mitochondrion in all animal cells. This not the same as the DNA found in the nucleus. These little powerhouses were at one time long ago living on their own but became part of a larger cell. The two worked well together and helped each other.

The egg carries all of the cell parts (organelles) that will be needed for a new individual to develop. Because it does, it is so large it is the only human cell that can be seen without a microscope. The sperm (head) contains just its' share of DNA and no other organelles.

But now there are tests for the Y-line which tests just the Y chromosome (the paternal line) and the mitochondrial DNA tests only the direct maternal line and a third test for autosomal testing which looks at your DNA contributed from all of your ancestors, males and females alike.

DNA studies have been carried out in the last 20 years on Jewish communities from around the world. These studies showed that Jews from all over the Earth, are quite closely related to each other and all originated in the Middle East.

Both mitochondrial (female-line) and paternal DNA have been included in these studies. It has been found that the paternal evidence of continuous Jewish descent is stronger than the maternal line, but both are still very strong.

In 2000, the analysis of a report by Nicholas Wade "provided genetic witness that Jewish communities have, to a remarkable extent, retained their biological identity separate from their host populations, showing relatively little intermarriage or conversion into Judaism over the centuries. The results accord with Jewish history and tradition and refute theories which would allege that Jewish communities consist mostly of converts."
