The main contributor to the destruction of the Aztecs and most other Native American Tribes of the region was the Spanish. After Christopher Columbus voyaged to find the far east and stumbled upon the Americas, the Spanish dedicated more resources to exploration of the "New World". Later, in 1518, Hernán(Hernando) Cortés, who failed at being a governor of Cuba during fourteen years of office, led an army to conquer the Yucatan Peninsula. His first attempt at conquering the great city of Tenochititlan was thwarted; however, due to Spain's technological advances (guns) and military supremacy (cavalry) Cortés eventually overtook the city, and continued his domination throughout present day Mexico and Central America.
