Listeria monocytogenes is a ubiquitous bacteria that can grow on just about any food. However, the most common foods that L monocytogenes gets into and causes problems are ready-to-eat (RTE) meat, poultry and dairy products. It has also recently been associated with cantaloupes, so produce may also be emerging as a significant infection source.
