1982 half breed 1983 total Nissan
Answer:
To be most accurate, in 1911, Datsun was founded. The company was originally named DATSON, but this sounded like 'to lose money' in Japanese, and was renamed Datsun. Part of the history behind this is the D.A.T. lettering. (From Kajiro Den, Rokuro Ayoma, and Meitaro Takuchi. )
In 1926, DAT absorbed the Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo. (practical automobile company in japanese). They then ceased with car production and started making trucks.
In the 1930s, DAT renamed the company Nissan. At this point, they started to massively expand the plant, and were helping manufacture for the war effort in Manchuria.
World War 2 saw Nissan producing fighter aircraft, military trucks, and the like. At the end of World War 2, American sentiment was very poor against Nissan, so the original Datsun name was revived.
Skip forward a few decades. In 1982 Nissan decided the Datsun brand was diluting its trademark. At this point 'Datsun by Nissan' started to be placed on the vehicles, and later simply 'Nissan'. However, in 2002, the Datsun name was revived again, with a line of minivans and cars.
The last actuall year datsun stoped putting its name on their cars would be in 1983. From 1984 the put Nissan really big then datsun
Datsun was established in 1914 and was the first mass-produced Japanese motor vehicle. Nissan Motors was founded in 1933. The two companies merged in 1960. Both labels continued to be manufactured until 1982, which was the last year that "Datsun" appeared on the "Sentra" model. The story is a bit complicated, but Datsun and Nissan merged, with datsun becoming a brand of Nissan (much like lexus is a brand of toyota).
