t's always a good idea for any couple to think ahead and prepare for pregnancy, so Mom and baby can be as healthy as possible. When facing the potential for Rh disease, as you two are, it's even more important. You'll probably want to educate yourselves about Rh incompatibility. And in any case, make sure you find a health-care provider who understands Rh disease, and with whom it's easy to communicate.

Rh disease of the newborn arises from incompatibility of the Rh factor between the mother and baby. It's a bit simplistic, but you can think of the Rh factor as a protein that is either present (positive) or absent (negative) on red blood cells. Exact percentages vary with race, but most people are Rh-positive.

A woman with Rh-negative blood has nothing to worry about if their baby is also Rh-negative, and a woman with Rh-positive blood need not worry at all. Problems arise only with Rh-negative mothers and Rh-positive babies. Usually the first pregnancy goes fine. It's a subsequent Rh-positive baby who may be at risk. The mother themselves are in no danger.

If both the mother and father are RH negative than their child will be RH negative as well. This is good because there is no risk of the mother developing antibodies to the child's blood. This occurs when the blood of an RH negative mother mixes with the blood of her RH positive baby. The mothers body treats the foreign blood like an invader and creates antibodies to attack and isolate the cells. This can occur when the placenta detaches during childbirth, miscarriage, abortion and some prenatal testing procedures. Usually the mother will have her first child successfully with no harm but if not treated with the ROGAM shot afterwards she will have trouble carrying further RH positive babies. This can all be prevented by getting typed at the time of first pregnancy so the shot can be administered and after the birth it will be administered again.

Nothing happens if the mother is positive and carrying a negative baby.

Rh incompatibility is only an issue for an Rh negative mother carrying an Rh positive baby. Once the Rh- mother is exposed to Rh+ blood (during the first pregnancy, for example), the mother produces antibodies against the foreign blood which will then affect subsequent Rh+ babies.

Yes. However, this kind of pregnancy, if it is a second or subsequent pregnancy, is considered high risk. This situation requires special care from an obstetrician, such as giving Rhogam around 28 weeks gestation, and special precautions at the time of delivery.

Only if the father is rh positive.

You get one gene from each parent and a person who is rh + maybe +/+ or +/-. So it is possible for an rh+ parent to pass either a positive or negative to the baby. However, an rh neg person has got to be -/- and so can only pass rh neg to the baby. So if the mother is rh neg any pos rh factor would have to have come from the father (who must also be rh pos).

The possible side effects of Rhogam are like most vaccinations. If rhogam is given unnecessarily because both parents are Rh negative, there are no repercussions other than the side effects you would normally experience. I think sometimes they give it as a "just in case". There is a lot more infidelity than there used to be. Also, many people have been given incorrect information about their blood type. So depending on where you are getting the information about the father's blood type, they probably don't want to take anyone's word for it when a baby's well being is on the line.

If a mother is RH negative, and the father is RH positive, this can cause severe health problems when the unborn child develops RH positive blood. If mother and baby's blood mix, the mother's blood might attack the baby's blood cells. This could cause illness, brain damage, or even death in the child.

The baby could be either rh negative or rh positive. I am rh negative and they had to give me a RHOgam shot just in case the baby was rh positive.

Can a 0 positive mother and a A negative father have a A Rh's negative child?

Yes. The mother would have to have a heterozygous Rh genotype, so that she could pass on an Rh negative allele to her offspring.

What happens if a woman is heterozygous Rh positive and her child's father is hemozygous Rh negative?

There is a 50% that offspring will be Rh negative.

Rh positive mother a positive baby?

If a person has the Rh factor, then they are positive. If they don't have the Rh factor, they are negative. The Rh factor is dominant, so a mother with it would have an Rh positive baby even if the father is negative for the Rh factor.

You have type O plus why does your father have O negative?

there is no problem with that, your Rh+ comes from your mother :) ur father genotype is Rh-Rh- your mother should be Rh+Rh+ or Rh+Rh- so you took one Rh- from your father and one Rh+ from your mother the result will be Rh+Rh- and because the +ve propriety is more dominant your blood type will be +ve even if you have the mix of Rh+Rh-

Father O negative mother ab positive?

Theoretically : If mother AB+ ( with hetero alleles Rh+Rh-) children are : A+,A-,B+,B- If mother AB+ ( with homo alleles Rh+Rh+) children are : 100% A+,B+

Is mother is rh positive and father is rh negative what happens?

What happens if a mother is Rh positive and a father is Rh negative is that they mother is given a RhoGAM shot when she gives birth. She will have to do this each time she gives birth, even if the births are not live.

Can an Rh negative father and an Rh negative mother have an Rh negative baby?

yes

What happens if mother is rh positive and father is rh negative?

The rhogam shot is routinely given to mothers who are rh negative who may have rh positive babies. If you are rh positive there is no need to get the shot. However, if you are rh positive and get the shot it will not effect you or the baby.

Can a child be negative if the mother if positive and father is negative?

Yes, this is possible. only if the mother's alleles are Heterozygous (Rh+Rh-).

Can a mother with A positive blood type and a father with O positive blood type produce a child with 0 negative?

Yes this depends on type off parent alleles Rh- ,,,,,,, alleles are (Rh-Rh-) Rh+ ,,,,,, alleles are (Rh+Rh+) or ( Rh+Rh-) if mother is (Rh-Rh-) and father is (Rh+Rh+ ) there is no chance to have Rh- baby, here all will be Positive if mother is A+ (Rh+Rh+) and father is O+(Rh+Rh+) also here there is no chance to have Rh- baby, and all will be Positive if mother is A+ ( Rh+Rh-) and father is O+( Rh+Rh-) the may have a negative baby but with very low percentage that reaches to 25%

Rh positive mother a positive baby?

If a person has the Rh factor, then they are positive. If they don't have the Rh factor, they are negative. The Rh factor is dominant, so a mother with it would have an Rh positive baby even if the father is negative for the Rh factor.

Can a baby have B negative blood if the mother is B positive and the father is A negative?

Either. We know the mother is homozygous recessive rh- rh- for rh factor, so she can only pass on an rh negative allele to a child. However, if the father is heterozygous rh+ rh- for rh factor, he could pass on one of those two alleles to a child. If he passes on the rh+ (dominant) allele, the baby would be rh positive. If he passes on the rh- allele, the baby would be rh negative.
