Common reductants (substances readily oxidized) are the active metals, hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide, carbon, carbon monoxide and sulphurous acid.

Common oxidants (substances readily reduced) include the halogens (especially fluorine and chlorine), nitric acid, oxygen, ozone, potassium dichromate, potassium permanganate, and concentrated sulfuric acid.

Some substances are capable of acting either as reductants or as oxidants, e.g., hydrogen peroxide and nitrous acid.

What is the chemical reaction between hydrogen peroxide and K2Cr2O7?

There is no reaction between H2O2 and K2Cr2O7 because both are oxidants.

What about oxygen makes you age?

reactive oxygen species(ROS) comprising of superoxide radicals, hydroxyl free radicals and singlet oxygen arise as byproducts of oxidation.these are highly toxic to the body tissues and are one of the proposed causative agents of ageing .The removal of electrons by oxygen is the oxidation process.. it increases the age of cell that leads to aging process. actually the oxygen does not completely remove the electrons but it produces the oxidants in cells while the process of Electron Transport Chain Process. this is nothing but simply cell respiration. during this time the oxygen produces the unpaired electrons( Oxidants) which are more active, instable and very quicky bind with other molecules. when the time of respiration these oxidants released and reacted with the protein molecules in the cell and thus collapse the Protein"s structure or denature it. Due to this the cell integerity was collapsed and get die. this increases the aging process. this oxidants also a major cause for cancer. because it collapse the normal cell mechanism and function. the abnormal cells can be produced because of this. Anti oxidants will prevent this process or slowing process. Vit C, Green vegetables and fruits are rich in anti oxidants which helps to prevent aging and cancer.

Why Pbcl4 is unstable than Pbcl2?

Pb(IV)-compositions are good oxidants. Pb(II) is more stable. Inert-Pair-Effect.

Rusting is an example of what?

Rusting is the corrosion of iron. A redox reaction will occur and the iron will be oxidised by the oxygen and water surrounding it or any other strong oxidants.

Are metals oxidants ot reductants?

metals generally acts as reductants because a relatively small amount of energy is needed to remove the small number of outer-shell electrons in metals.

What food contains enough antioxidants to rid a gum infection?

There is no set magical number of units of anti-oxidants to get rid of the unspecified 'gum infection', and thusly there can be no direct answer to the question. In terms of anti-oxidants, most foods have an ORAC (Oxygen radical absorbance capacity) value per serving, but not all values are based on the same serving size, so these numbers can be misleading to the casual observer. Spices, herbs, essential oils and cocoa are known to have the highest ORAC value, but the serving sizes are to small to be the leading providors of anti-oxidants. Dried fruits are a good source of anti-oxidants by weight/serving size as the water has been removed making the ratio of anti-oxidants higher. Fleshy fruits, nuts, and some vegetables are also known to be a rich source of anti-oxidants. Here are some foods known to have the highest levels of antioxidant phytochemicals per serving: aronia black chokeberry (100g), small red bean (1/2 cup dry), wild blueberry (1 cup), red kidney bean (1/2 cup dry), pinto bean (1/2 cup), blueberry (1 cup), cranberry (1 cup), artichoke heart (1 cup), blackberry (1 cup), prune (1/2 cup), raspberry (1 cup), strawberry (1 cup), red delicious apple (1), granny smith apple (1), pecan (1 oz), sweet cherry (1 cup), black plum (1), russet potato (1), black bean (1/2 cup dry), plum (1), gala apple (1).
