American culture is made up of religions, foods, education, music, languages, holiday traditions, technology, and freedoms.
By and large, the one element that defines culture in the United States is summed up in one word:
Assimilation.
Throughout our history we have been the destination of people from every nation, ethnic group, and culture on the planet. This is the only nation where someone can land from another nation and become this nationality. If you come from China, you can be an American. If you come from India, you can be an American. If you come from Morrocco, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Korea, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, France, Russia, Mongolia, or the moon (if there were people there), you can be an American.
Whether visitors and immigrants from everywhere else have been welcomed here or not when they arrived matters little in the big picture (not to minimized the difficulties far too many have experienced), eventually who they are and what they brought with them becomes American.
We are rude, gruff, abrupt, arrogant, entitled, flippant, irreverent, obnoxious, and controlling. But, we are also gregarious, nurturing, giving, empathetic, and sincere. We get all of that from the rest of the world; it's how we mix it all up that makes it uniquely our own.
Love us or hate us, we are who we are and we would defend to the death your right to have your opinion.
