A:

Pope Clement XIII is perhaps best known for his unsuccessful attempts to support the Jesuits against the royal families of Europe. He was generous with his extensive private fortune, but notorious for his rampant nepotism. Clement beatified Gregory Barbadigo, Archbishop of Padua, a relative of his own.

Clement XIII issued a new edition of the Catechism. He also ordered copies of the Encyclopédie of D'Alembert and Diderot destroyed, and the book placed on the Index of Prohibited Books because it reported honestly on the history of his papal predecessors.
