The Christopher Columbus Voyage 500th Anniversary Glass Mug is a commemorative item that was likely produced and sold to mark the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's first voyage to the Americas in 1492. The mug itself could have been manufactured anywhere in the world, and its specific origin would depend on the company or organization that created and distributed it.
Christopher Columbus did not have modern technology available to him that people would today, but he did have basic instruments. He was able to use things to navigate such as a compass, a cross-staff, back-staff, and an astrolabe.

Right now many historians are not sure. A recent theory is that his name was either stolen from a man named Columbus or he made it up. The new theory points out that he was Spanish and not Italian, he wrote in Spanish, and he was married to a Noble Spanish woman. This theory also goes on to point out that it was possible that his family were politically against the King and the Queen and to get the funds for his trip he took on the persona of Columbus. When I read about this theory it made sense to me because a man who is a high noble would write in Spanish and be married to a woman of the same level. A man of a lower level wouldn't have these things. To determine he was Spanish they have taken bone fragments of his son and are doing DNA testing.
England had nothing to do with the expeditions of Christopher Columbus. They were sponsored by the Queen Isabel I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon. Later these two countries, ruled by the married couple as separate kingdoms, became Spain.

Well, Columbus had three ships with a crew of a couple of hundred men; does that count? After him, other explorers like Henry Hudson and a host of Spanish explorers. Even before Columbus, there was Leif Erickson and his Vikings, and the Vikings who sailed to Vinland in Labrador, or the Irish monks who were rumored to have sailed from Ireland to North America.
