As far as your state's mandated curriculum: They tell you what classes you must take. As far as the elective classes you have room for, try talking to a counselor. They can help steer you towards classes that best fit your current interests or future plans.

There are a lot of classes that you need to pass in order to cmplete high school.

You need:

1.5 year of PE

0.5 year of Health

4 years of English

3 years of any science (physics, chemistry or Biology)

3 years of history

3 years of math

1 year of Arts (theater aka Drama, band, art)

These classes must be passed over the four year course of your High School

High school courses required for graduation vary widely depending upon state and the student's goals after graduation. However, general requirements include:

Four years of English/Language Arts

Three years of Social Sciences

Two years of Math

Two years of Science

One year of Foreign Language

One year of Physical Education

Many elective or vocational courses

You first have to be confident that you can take a college level class in that subject.

So if you are a math/science person, then maybe AP Calculus, AP Statistic, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, etc.

If you are an English/history person, then AP Literature/Comp., AP US History, AP Government, etc

But just because "everyone" seems to be takin that class does not mean you should take it also if you will only end up failing it. Take the ones you are most comfortable taking. Having 7 AP classes will not look good if you get all C's and D's in them.
