Colonial new Jersey was a very warm colony (it was very warm indeed) that was created for profit from selling. Both of the parts of New Jersey (east and west) were sold from their proprietors because not much success was being made. Even though New Jersey did offer freedom of religion, trial by jury, and representative assembly it wasn't going so swell. The representative assembly made local laws and created the tax rates.

New jersey is the 3rd state.

It was founded in 1664 by Lord John Berkely and Sir George Carteret for money from real estate profits, trading, and farming.

Geography

An important Geographic feature is it had many rivers of water to ship goods and was connected to the Atlantic Ocean to trade goods on ships.

Government

It was the first colony to ratify the Bill of Rights.

New Jersey's government had a governor.

Religion

In 1674, Lord Berkeley sold his part of new Jersey to two Quakers.

The Quakers are a religious group that was persecuted in England, and many of them moved to American. New Jersey Was divided into east and West Jersey and The Quakers moved to West Jersey.Then, Sir Carteret's widow decided to sell East Jersey. She sold it to a group of people, many of whom were Quakers. Neither East or West Jersey were very successful. they are joined together and became a royal colony ruled by the king of England.

Most of New Jersey's colonists were farmers. They grew flax, rye, wheat, corn and vegetables. People also took out small; strong ships out to sea so the could go whaling. They sold the whale's bones and oil.
