There is absolutely no proof that any herb can treat depression. Exercise believe it or not is extremely helpful. It get's those endorphins moving which make us happy and that is a proven scientific fact. Men and women have hormone changes (they also both go through menopause, but the woman goes through a more dramatic one) and I do know that buying free-range meat, poultry, eggs, etc., (nothing with high doses of hormones in it) will help as well as organic fruits and vegetables. Also, yams, sweet potatoes are excellent for hormones that help us feel better. Still, exercise is the very best thing one can do for themselves to relieve mild depression. If the depression advances it's time to see the doctor and talk things out as to the best route to go. I am for more natural cures as well, but it has been found in Canada that conventional medicine and homeopathic medicine go hand in hand. When I take these each morning I have no panic attacks or social anxiety disorders, I can be myself and joke around without feeling bashfull or foolish. Another dynamic thought, When I do get down and feel mad and irritated and hatefull. I get on my knees and sing praise songs I typed up to music I have recorded. I really dont how it works but I get up feeling really happy and if feels like a salve has been poured over my mind and emotions. I think the Holy Spirit is alive and working in praise to our Lord God Jesus Christ. It's great to have a hobby to help alleviate some of the depressive symptoms. However, some depressed people are not Christians, and some may not even be religious, and so would better be advised to see a psychiatrist and psychologist in order to determine the type of depression and the appropriate treatment. Depression can be treated, it does not have to be a chronic life sentence.

Can I ask that people are careful with St John's Wort. For a herbal remedy it interacts with an awful lot of prescribed medication and must be used with care. It is not recommended for diabetics at all and I think it is implicated with dangerous effects with many other conditions.
