Lets start with what a caliph is. A caliph is the leader of the Muslims, but there hasn't been a caliph since the fall of the Ottomans in the 1920. The characteristics of a caliph differ depending on weather you are Shi'ite or Sunni. A Shi'ite is some one who thinks that a caliph can only be a blood relative of Muhammad, while a Sunni believes any good Muslim male can become caliph. So this means under the Shi'ite definition any caliph has to be a blood relative of Muhammad, not a sinner, and does good deeds, while under the Sunni definition a caliph is someone who is not a sinner and does good deeds.

Characteristics of Islam:

Literally the word 'Islam' means 'peace'. Religiously, it means complete and unconditional surrender to the Will of Almighty Allah (God). Following are some of the beliefs and teachings of Islam:

1. The major beliefs on which the Muslim traditions are based are: Eemaan Mujmal:Translation: I believe in Almighty Allah, as are His beautiful Names and Attributes, I accept all His Commands, I declare from my tongue, and testify by my heart. Eeman Mufassal:Translation: I believe in Almighty Allah. The Angels, all heavenly Books, all Prophets, in the Day of Judgment, and this that Good or Bad Destiny is from Him, and that there will be life after death and then No death (Eternal life in heaven or hell). Belief in Almighty Allah (God): God- Allah is ONE Allah. There is no god but He. He and He alone deserves worship. He is All-Knowing, All-Seeing. All power lies in His Hands. He will punish the sinners and reward the Good. He is Eternal, Unique, and incorporeal. There is nothing like Him.

2. Belief in Angels Created by Almighty God- Allah Karim from light. They are obedient to Allah Karim. Carry out His commands. The Jews and Christians also believe in the Angels.

3. The Muslims believe in all heavenly books, including Tora, Zaboor, The Bible, the last one being the Qur'an.

4. The Muslims believe in all the Messengers (Prophets May peace be upon them all) of Almighty Allah- No distinction among them. Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) being the last Prophet of Islam. NO Prophet after him.

5. The Muslims believe in the life after death, resurrection and the Day of Judgment. Almighty Allah Karim is the Sole Ruler/Master of that Day. He enjoys the absolute authority to send people to Heaven or Hell. .

6. The Muslims believe that good and bad Destiny being in the Hands of Almighty Allah. No One can change his destiny.

7. Life hereafter: All the dead will be raised again and judged according to their good or bad deeds. There will be no death to them.

8. Hell and Heaven (Paradise)

9. The Muslims believe that Nobody can take the responsibility of some other person's deeds.

10. All the power of decision making is in the Hands of Almighty Allah, and none else.

11. The Muslims must give charity 2.5% of annual saving. They should also help the poor and the needy, irrespective of their caste, creed, color or country because all human beings are the off-spring of One couple- Hazrat Adam (AS) and Hazrat Eve (AS).

12. The Muslims must live a noble, chaste, truthful, honest, just and fair life.

13. The Muslims must be kind to all human beings and all creatures of Almighty Allah.

14. It is very unfortunate that most of the Muslims don't follow the teachings of Islam. They are notorious for their terrorism, cruelty, dishonesty and injustice. Anyhow, Islam disowns Terrorists, unjust and cruel people.

Islam believes in One God and all the Prophets of the bible being from God. With Muhammad(pbuh) being the last of the Prophets.

Answer AThe main characteristic is worshiping Allah (God in English and same God in Christianity and Judaism) as the one and only one God and that Muhammad is His prophet and messenger. Refer to question below for details. Answer BIslam is a beautiful religion of peace and praying to god. some people hate Islam, which means they clearly don't understand. I'm christian and i think Islam is not religion of war. Regarding the 9/11, the terrorists, it's not because they were Muslims, they just happened to be Muslims. I'm fully christian with no traces of Islam in my family, but we still think that's so ridiculous and disrespectful for BURNING THE QUR'AN! Answer CThe main characteristic of Islam is monotheism. Islam called for worshiping Allah (God in English and same God worshiped by Christians and Jews) as one and only one God with no partner, no son, no father, no companion, no associate, and no equivalence.
