There are many concerns about biotechnology and its ethical implications. Many think just the fact that they appear to be trying to play God is not a good thing. Cloning is one of the biggest concerns but genetically altering humans or animals has many ethical implications. One firm was even considering the possibility of producing a strain of cattle that have no legs so that they can just be kept in a container and fed so they will have soft meat and no injuries!
Aside from morality there are some serious potential problems that can result from genetic manipulation. DNA is extremely complex and too fool with it can cause all kinds of problems that even the brightest scientists can not conceive of. Some genetically altered vegetables have caused health reactions in humans who have eaten them.
It is possible to open a Pandora's box that is completely out of our control. Many Science Fiction stories have revolved around this issue. Some of these sci-fi ideas are not too likely, such as 50' Spiders devouring people, however, not all of these scenarios are unlikely. Corn is something that has been experimented with a lot. The problem with corn is that it cross pollinates with other corn even when you don't want it to. If a harmful gene is introduced into corn it could spread through the world making corn no longer fit for human consumption!
