Romania is a great country with lots of beautiful sights and minds to provide. It is a country which was used a lot of time by Europe, and then forgotten. Its landscapes are incomparable and they have a specific beauty. Lands like the medieval sights from Sighişoara, Hunedoara, Braşov, Sibiu etc. have one of the greatest attractions for tourists. Moldova is also a part of Romania which must be visited thanks to its great monasteries and churches.
I have been to Romania four times. The country is very beautiful with varied terrain including the historic city of Bucharest and the mountainous region of Carpathia. It is a great place for a winter holiday ski-ing in Brasov or a summer holiday on the Black Sea beach resort of Constanta. The language is Romanian, which is a Latin-based language like Italian, but with a strong Russian influence. During the 20th century, Romania's politics was dominated by Nicolae Ceausescu who was overthrown in a revolution (or perhaps a coup?) in 1989. Romania is one of the newest member states of the European Union, having joined in January 2007. The story of Dracula is based on a Romanian folk tale about a historical figure named 'Vlad the Impaler'. There are some amazing painted churches in rural Romania and the Transylvanian glass icons are a unique art form from this country. Romania shares its borders with Bulgaria, Hungary, Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine.
21 350 000 is Romania's population (my estimate for April 2011) .
The capital of Romania is Bucharest (Bucureşti in the Romanian language).
Languages spoken there are Romanian (more than 90 %), Hungarian (circa 5 %) and other minor languages.
Romania has a very old and interesting culture.
Unfortunately Romania is now an underdeveloped country, spoiled by the Western countries
Examples: Carpathian Mountains, old monasteries and churches, museums, lakes, rivers, Black Sea, important and historical buildings in many towns, Danube Delta, caves, canyons, savage animals, folklore, some villages etc.
