Travis, Bowie, Crockett for the good side, and for the bad side, Santa Anna.
From what I have gathered about him, Davy Crockett was very nice, with an affable personality and the ability to get along with most anyone. During his brief association with Jim Bowie and William Travis he was on good terms with both of them, while Bowie and Travis were on anything but good terms with each other. One person with whom Crockett did not get along was Andrew Jackson.
David Crockett was not a good role model. Crockett cursed everyone when he didn't get his way, let false exaggerations about himself spread, and other things. Sure, he was a good hunter, a good politic, and a good soldier. An athlete can be the best at whatever he does, but we won't put him on a pedestal and call him an American folk hero. If you look into the information of David Crockett and his life, you'll see that he is an athlete among normal people, but ,as a role model, he's just about as good as any morally-struggling person.
David Crockett had two sons and a daughter from his marriage to Polly Finley; John Wesley (Congressman), William, and Margaret. David remarried after Polly's death to Elizabeth Patton, and had three children; Robert, Rebeckah and Matilda. He was in the battle of the Alamo. Lots and lots of tall tales about him. He can wrestle and alligator. Really good hunter.
Davy Crockett lived from 1786 -1836. He lived a large life--frontiersman, congressman from Tennessee, fought in the war of 1812 and died at the Alamo in Texas. He married twice, had 4 children. The Disney movie, Davy Crockett, lives up to the legends about his life, some exaggerated, but all good stories.

This has been argued for years. The fact is we really do not know. Texans and Americans would like to believe he fought to the bitter end. However there is evidence that says otherwise. The diary of Lt. Jose Enrique de la Pena, a Mexican officer, was first published in 1975. We can expect that he had a better knowledge of Crockett's fate than most, so it seems likely that his version of Crockett being captured and killed after the battle is accurate. Texans and Americans alike love to build up their hero's. And through folklore, Crockett's death had become heroic. If we are to believe de la Pena's version it is good to note that he doesn't state Crockett begged for his life, but he and the others captured, died with honor and did their duty to the end.
