Coast whenever possible. Don't use the gas peddle when you don't have to. For example: When approaching a stop, let the car glide and gradually decrease its speed on its own. This saves gas, and your breaks.

when going down a hill are a downward slope, shift into neutral and coast until you reach a turn or an uphill road. Doing this will keep your engine in idle and will save the gas your engine uses to maintain a controlled speed.

In the past a manual transmission equipped vehicle would always get better fuel mileage. But on cars built in the last 5 years that is not always true. There are some vehicles where the A/T equipped vehicle gets as good or better fuel mileage than a manual. Especially cars equipped with a CVT automatic transmission.

Used vehicles can be both economical and reliable, especially for first car buyers. Features to look for in a good used vehicle include low mileage, good body condition, engine integrity, gas mileage and how many owners the vehicle has had. It is best to have a used car looked at by a mechanic before purchasing the vehicle. There are many used vehicle websites that allow you to compare prices of vehicles online. Some of these websites include truedelta.com and autotrader.com.

To increase the gas mileage in your hybrid car, consider taking your time as you stop. Quick stops require the brakes to do most of the work, but when a hybrid stops slowly, the electric motor acts like a generator and converts some of the rolling motion of the vehicle into electricity. This replenishes the battery to a small degree and can add up to better gas mileage.
