dragons- legends say that dragons captured and ate damsels/princeses and a "knight in shining armor" would come to slay the dragon and save the damsel/princess.
elves- thought to be small fairy-like creatures except without wings, usually oddly colored, and malicious, had pointed ears.
dwarfs- thought to be small men living in mountain caves, skillfull stone cutters.
faries- small winged, human-like creatures who could transform into any person or annimal, wore cloths made from flower petals or leaves, could cast a spell on someone who helped them or harmed them.
