You can use any Eagle Pack type such as their healthy "Holistic Select" line. You will use the pink bag labeled "SeniorCare formula" if your dog is over seven. Otherwise, ask your vet or pet store employee which Holistic Select flavor to use for the dog. PLEASE DO NO USE IAMS PET FOOD. Other options include Purina or Science Diet, but ask your vet what is best for your dog's age and energy levels.

There are a lot of good foods out there! I have found that alot of times Labs suffer from Allergies so I would stay away from foods with Corn, wheat, soy, by-products, dyes, and chicken. Natural Balance has a potato and duck formula and a sweet potato and venison formula that is specifically made for dogs with allergies. Other good foods would be Canidae, Wellness, Solid Gold, Innova, California Natural, Fromm or Eagle Pack. Hope that gives you some ideas let me know if you want more suggestions!

The statement you should feed your pup any kind of puppy chow is very untrue. Nearly every major brand sold in grocery stores are NOT good for your growing pup. The major ingredient is corn which a dog has a difficult time digesting. The second ingredient is wheat which is linked to many allergy problems in dogs. Dogs are primarily carnivores so the main ingredients should be meat, but not by products.

Here is a nice unbiased place to look for what to feed your dog or pup.

Anything in the 4,5, or 6 star category would do well. You will find nearly every grocery store brand in the 1 star category and see that they are not recommended.

I started feeding my pup Pedigree and noted excessive shedding and itching. Turned out to be the food with lack of protein and substandard ingredients. Once switching the results were nearly immediate. When you change a dogs food be sure to do it over a 2 week period starting with 3/4 ration of the old with 1/4 of the new and gradually work out the old.

What is readily available in your area of the highest rating is what I would recommend.

I feed my Lab Pup Blue Diamond Chicken and rice Puppy food for large breeds. It has a 4 star rating and is easily found at PetSmart. Holistic food is best and your pets will thank you by returning many years of healthy affection.

The brand doesn't matter at all. The problem with modern society is that we are too focused on brands that we ignore or forget about actual needs.

What matters is what's in the food. You need to make sure the food is healthy for your dog and that he or she is getting all the nutrients needed. Labrador dogs can also consume raw beef or pork on some occasions.

The best kind of dog food for a lab puppy is one made from natural ingredients. Find a kibble with meat as the first ingredient. Lab puppies can benefit from a puppy food to help them grow.

How much food for labrador puppy?

It varies according to weight and the type of food you are feeding him. Look for the feeding guidelines printed on your dog food label and feed according to that. My puppy was on Iams Large Breed - Puppy which had a table on the back showing how much to feed according to age (weeks then months) and weight. I lowered this slightly to prevent him becoming overweight!
