You tell me stupid.... Just joking. You can remove the hard disk if the machine holding it breaks.
Example: I am using my hard drive to save stuff and then it breaks. what do i do? remove the hard disk (with professional assistance of course).

Additionally, your hard drive is where all of your other programs and your media like pictures, videos and more are stored.
