There are many ways to enhance relaxation. The biggest impediment to relaxing is the mind. Exercising can help release the needed body chemicals to help soothe the mind. Good aerobic exercise, a brisk walk can be a great way to start. Breathing is also very important. In many religions around the world, breathing techniques are an integral part of spiritual practice. Except for Christianity - somewhere along the road, spiritual practice has been replaced by belief/faith. Many priests from different religions have been mystified why Christian priests do not prepare themselves with some kind of breathing. There are many forms of breathing exercises. Try breathing in to a count of 4, holding for 16, exhaling for 8. Or try closing one nostril, breathing in then exhaling through the mouth. Alternate nostrils. Or just deep belly breathing, expanding the lungs fully, exhaling slowly. Next is time for quieting the mind. For some, even meditation is difficult at first. Relaxation music may help. Relaxation music specifically designed to take the mind on a journey may help ( It can really help calm the mind - keeping it engaged enough to quiet the mind, but not distracting enough to hinder going to an alternate state.)
