What are somethings a 13 year old girl do to help them not get scared when staying at a friends house?

If this girl had something that was emotionally comforting to her, such as a special blanket or stuffed animal, she should take it with her. It might remind her of home and make her feel better about being away.
If she has a cell phone, keep it with her. She will feel connected to the outside world and she will know that her family and/or help is only a call away.
I suggest that she and her friend do something super fun- such as dancing to their favorite songs, playing Karaoke or truth-or-dare. Having a great time will help her to forget that she was ever scared in the first place.
Tell her friend that she gets scared when away from home. Don't be embarrassed. Ask a parent if they can leave a night-light on or if they can go to sleep with a movie playing.
Most of all- Relax. This girl is with people that she trusts and that will take care of her if anything goes wrong. She should remember that she is there to have fun and it is highly unlikely that anything will hurt her.
(PS- This is not the correct course of action if there is something in the environment that is dangerous. If the girl feels that she is with people whom she does not trust, or people who make her feel uncomfortable, the best thing to do is tell a trusted adult about her fears.)
