Many sizes of the Chevy V8s were made from its day view in 1955 at 265 ci to as big as 400 ci on the small blocks. There have been 4 generations on the small block side starting from the original small blocks Gen 1, LT Gen 2, LS Gen 3 and 4 and a new Gen 5 due out soon. The most popular are the 283, 302 (Destroked 327 used in the first gen Z28 for Trans Am racing), 305, 307, 327, 350, 355 (Bored 350), 383 Stroker (Stroked and bored 350), 400, 4.8, 5.3, 5.7 (LS1), 6.0, 6.2, 7.0 as well as others. Popular LT blocks were the LT4 and the Corvette LT1. Some popular LS blocks are the LS1, LS2, LS3, LS4, LS7, and LS9 found in the new ZR1 Corvette. GM Performance currently offers LSX small blocks with various sizes. Big Blocks were as small as the 366T used in work trucks to all the way to the tall deck 572 ci from GM Perfomance. Popular engine sizes are the Mark IV and Gen V 396, 402, 427, 454, Vortec 8100 (496), 502, 572. The early Chevy Big Blocks are known as the W blocks because of their unique head design. Displacements were at 348, 409, and also a 427 different from the later production 427 Mark IV BB. Merlin, an aftermarket company, currently also manufactures other CI variations of the Chevy BB.
