Tiberius was the son of Augustus' wife, his step-son. He wasn't always the top choice to succeed the Emperor, but the Emperor outlived many of the other choices. As an Emperor Tiberius was able to maintain the peace and control of the position of the Emperor. He also murdered the best possible successor for himself Germanicus Caesar. He was succeded by Germanicus' son Caligula.
