Typically community college are open admissions. They are open to those 18 years of age or older. However, to be placed into a major, the individual must have a high school diploma, GED, or be placed according to ability to benefit. The community college system is a great place to start. It gives everyone a chance. The student can complete an associate degree and transfer to a four year college or university after completion of the degree, if a higher degree is desired.
