The government failed to renew subsidies that helped support the colony and it was turned over to the crown, becoming a Royal Colony.
the crown colony was always there like a govenment is always there to make laws, maintain the country etc...the crown colony was a body which made laws and even came about with the idea of proprietory system .. example: for st kitts was in the guy named WARNER hands and he had to ask the crown to go and populate and maintain this country ..so as you can see the crown is like the main 'boss.' i hope this cleared things up :)

The Bahamas was in a state of ruins because of the pirates and the ineffective Proprietary Governors. This became a great concern for English merchants who were losing fortunes to pirates. To stop this the Crown had to regain control of The Bahamas. The Crown purchased the islands from the Proprietors and set up their own form of government to try and stop the pirates. The form of government set up by the Crown was called Crown Colony Government. In 1718 the Crown sent their first Royal Governor to The Bahamas Captain Woodes Rogers.

The Colonial Charter
1 difference is that the crown colonies have crown-administered governors and councils where the crown gives the final say to any decisions, laws and choices made whereas in the old representative government, the governor selected by crown executes the laws made by the council. The power in such a government is split between the governor and the council.
