The United States isn't Communist, we are Capitalist. Many of the Communist regimes( leaderships) went away in the late 80s and early 90s at the end of the Cold War. As for containment, if a country we hold(ie. Izreal) elect a Communist leader, that would break them away from our support, and we would be able to do nothing without starting a war.
