What are the arguments about polygamy according to Islamic beliefs?

Here are some spotlights:

- Polygamy is a very ancient human practice & Islam didn't invent it. It was practiced abundantly before Islam & it's also mentioned in The Bible.

- polygamy was practiced even by prophets.

- Islam put an upper limit for the number of wives that could be married by a man to be four as a maximum number.

- Polygamy has its conditions to be accepted by the Islamic religion & justice between the wives tops the list.

- In fact, Islam doesn't encourage polygamy. It only gives the grant for Muslims to practice it in certain special situations & under conditions. Even, the Holy Quran urges Muslims to better marry only one wife.

- polygamy is a good option in such following cases:

1. In the time of wars when the number of males is severely reduced.

2. If the first wife is very sick.

3. If the first wife is unable to bring birth to children.

4. If the first wife dies.

& other cases vary from a society to another & from a man to another.

- Any Muslim man abuses polygamy is considered sinful & has to fear from the Almighty God.

• Nothing mentioned in the bible or the Torah that bans explicitly polygamy
• Jesus (PBUH) is a Jew and sent by God to the Jews. however, he never denied the polygamy practiced by almost all Jews.
• Quran is the only holy book that limited explicitly the number of wives for a husband. The only holy book that conditioned that the man who goes into marriage, with one wife or up to four wives, should afford marriage expenses, should be fair and kind with his wife or wives, and should treat his wives equally (if more than one wife).
