Buddhism is attractive since the teachings are based on truth of the nature of life. It does not require blind faith and is something which can benefit anyone if practiced. Basically it is a system which allows one to overcome suffering/unsatisfactoriness in their life and eventually the complete elimination of the same. Since everyone in the world experiences these things it is applicable to all. The teachings are verifiable here and now, through one's own direct experience to make one a happier human being.

It is a very positive and affirming way of life:

  • Waking up in the morning is accompanied by the thought "Wow! Another day"
  • You know the day will be filled with events - some enjoyable, others educational
  • You have no fear of the big deity CCTV peering over your shoulder
  • Everyone you meet will be a friend or offer an interesting point of view on life
  • Your daily tasks will be meaningful or educational
  • You will be able to satisfy many of your daily needs
  • At night you can go to bed thinking "Wow! Another day!"

Properly understood, Buddhist is a set of practices designed to ameliorate suffering (dissatisfaction, dukkha). One way to understand its goal, nirvana, is to understand it as a state of very alert but thoughtless awareness, in other words, freedom from compulsive thinking (conceptualizing, sorting, classifying, categorizing, evaluating, etc.). So its goal is not really to gain anything but to eliminate fear of illness, fear of old age, fear of dying and death, and the endless everyday worries and concerns that undermine happiness. Although letting go of compulsive thinking is difficult, it is simple. In short, practicing Buddhism is a very clever way to lead a happy life.
