Wow - not answered yet! I was looking for side dishes. I have always had a Belmont Stakes and Steaks on the grill party... Cheddar Cheese (NY of course) Platter with Frozen Grapes (yum) Shrimp Cocktail NY Strip Steaks Baked Potatoes Sour Cream Chives Iceberg Salad with lots of veggies Tomatoes on top Variety of Dressings Cheesecake The theme is New York all the way. As for on the side - what do you serve? I have had: Green Beans Grilled Asparagus with Holiday (yogurt-based cold hollandaise) Grilled Veggies (zucchini, onions, mushrooms) Fried Mushrooms When attending the Belmont Stakes - seems to me the traditional foods were steaks and burgers but I got no feel for side dishes.

Since more people are right handed, you serve from the right , as some dishes require two hand to transfer the food to your plate in formal service. Remove from the left when possible , but if someone is seated in an awkward to reach spot, do the best you can. Try to NEVER reach across the table or squash an adjacent guest.
either a garlic mash potatoes or a steamed vegetable with a home made cheese sauce
well, Texas has very large proportion's. mostly steaks and beef. very heavy food hales form Texas. usually the food is steak (blackened of course) with a side of mashed potatoes and asparagus. the meat take up the whole tray, and the side dishes remain small. usually medium rare is the best. Like i said BIG proportion's. so if you venture there, you'll be expecting big meals. they also mainly serve Texas soul food (steak) and Mexican food As well. mostly those 2 type's. they don't necessarily serve foreign food's. :) there you go.
A side dish is a dish of food "on the side" that compliments the main dish. For instance, if you serve fried chicken as the main dish, you might serve mashed potatoes and green beans as sides dishes, also called "sides." If fish is the main dish, you might serve hush puppies and french fries or tater wedges as sides.
