Windows do not have not have a three character limit on extensions. Some filenames are given extensions longer than three characters. using the alphabet (A-Z) and numerals (0-9), a three character extension can yield up to 46,656 combinations. So it is a big list!

∙ 12y agoThe 2 most main types of files I would have to say are ".TXT" files (also known as TEXT FILES) which can be opened with notepad, wordpad, or even Microsoft Word. The second one, any video file really, but the most popular video file is probably still the MPEG also known as ".MPG". I hope this helps you understand file type a bit better.
