  • Isolation (neighbors are sometimes too far away than one would like)
  • Impossible to take a bus to work
  • Impossible to walk or bike-ride to an off-farm job, especially if it's over 20 miles away
  • More responsibilities as far as work load is concerned
  • Dealing with animal feces (though some don't see this as a disadvantage)
  • Look after own water which quite often comes from a well
  • Too much things to do and not enough time in the day to do them
