animals may drink from it which could have had a bad disease or some bugs may have fallen in the spring and contaminated it so there is your answer :)

Fertilizers and insecticides and weed killers used on most residential lawns. And thousands of acres of farmland treated with fertilizers, weed killers and insecticides. Look at Lake Erie and others over run by algae caused by these chemicals. If they leach into the lake, they also leach into the spring water. I’ll take purified water even if it originated from a tap.
