North Vietnam had the stamina, persistence, courage, discipline, and war equipment (supplies) provided by their supporters (USSR/Chicom) to fight the most powerful nation on earth. Their biggest disadvantage was having to march (walk) into South Vietnam (via the Ho Chi Minh Trail) under the bombing of the most powerful bombers in the world; the B-52's (not to mention AC-130 Spectre gunships, and standard US fighter-bombers).
