Best Answer

None if operated properly without accidents that it wasn't designed for.

  1. TMI was improper operation.
  2. Chernobyl was grossly improper design and improper operation.
  3. Japan was inadequate design for possible earthquake/tsunami.

Reactors can be designed safely and operated safely.

Does a toaster use nuclear energy and how?

What damage does nuclear power cause?

Nuclear power has multiple dangers such as, Power plant accidents- a notable one is Chernobyl but many have occurred Radiation which causes cancer Radioactive waste If Nuclear war comes into play

What year did the first nuclear reactor come online?

The first nuclear reactor, CP-1, was built and operated in 1942. It generated no electricity, its peak thermal power was one half watt. The first nuclear power plant was connected to the grid sometime in the 1950s.

Which countries build nuclear plant overseas?

Nuclear power results in electricity which enters the grid system of whatever country the power plant is situated in, and thereafter it is just electricity without any tie to where it came from. If one country receives electricity from another where nuclear is operating, then certainly some of that power will have come from nuclear plants. In Europe there are many cross border electric transfers, so this will be happening often. However it's not possible to separate out the sources.

Where does nucler energy come from?

Nuclear energy comes from nuclear power plants. Inside the power plant, the workers split Uranium atoms which release heat. Then they release water on the heat which causes steam. the steam rises and turns turbines which then release electricity.

What factors make nuclear power expensive?

No one has found a way to get rid of nuclear wastes, there is a lot of security dealing with nuclear power, an accident at a nuclear reactor can be dangerous for miles around and for years to come. Except for hydrogen bombs, nuclear fusion power has not been harnessed by people for more than a few seconds. Considering that all a nuclear (fission) power plant does is to boil water and turn it into steam, there are better ways of making electricity than nuclear power (except for submarines and aircraft carriers). Remember Three Mile Island and Chernobyl? That's why nuclear power is so expensive.

Can nuclear energy be used right away?

Nuclear power is being used all the time, in the US and many other countries. If you decide to build a new plant, it obviously takes several years to come on stream
