It is the duty of a salesman to be hardworking and honest.

Its the passion one is expected to put into his task that would determine the success of sales. The better you make efforts, the better the outcomes would accrue from that. If you do something amazing and you believe in it, everything you do is marketing. If you build crap and you know it's crap, then marketing is sleight of hand that you hope to pull on the unsuspecting. You might score twenty bucks by stealing my wallet, but you're not going to gain a customer for life. Also augmenting your marketing approach with promotional products would add a vigor to your marketing campaign.

The first and foremost duty of a salesman is to complete sales. In other words, to encourage the customer to buy from the store that the salesman works for.

Secondly, a salesman's duty is to represent the store that he works for well. His appearance, manners, attitude, etc. need to give the customer a positive impression of the company.

Third, and just as important as the others, is that the salesman duty is to be helpful. He needs to talk with the customer, asking open ended questions (ones that the customer can't answer with just a simple 'yes' or 'no', but that rather lead to a conversation about the product or service that the customer is considering), and most importantly - listening to the customer's answers. Knowing what the customer came in looking for and what their problem or needs are, the salesman can then recommend two or three alternative products or services that will meet those needs.

The salesman also has a responsibility to the company to show up on time every day. To work independently without a supervisor needing to check on him all the time to make sure that he's actually working or to have to remind him what to do. If the salesman handles money, he has a responsibility to himself and the company to make the proper change (if needed), to put all of the correct amount in the drawer and to keep track of any money he handles.

A person who can do those things will not only stay out of trouble, but he'll also be in demand. Customers will want to talk with him when they come in, Supervisors will recommend him for raises and/or new positions. If cost cutting becomes required at some point, he'll be one of the salesmen who are kept on staff.

The seller's many duties are to achieve great sales and have a smile in dealing with the buyer, elusive in persuading the buyer, he has experience and knowledge in the market, patient and bear all the buyer's questions. And to make the buyer comfortable in dealing with him. As for his responsibility, he inspects the goods to be in good condition, checks the date on their validity, and is interested in adding and quality to the goods.
