In order to become a music teacher in a public school system, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from an accredited college or university. This will require study in both music and education classes and a student teaching program. You will also be required to pass teaching certification exams in the state you intend to teach in.

You should go through several years of Royal Conservatory Music education (or it's equivilant) and take exams, then study performance. You can take lessons under a private teacher and let them know about your goals with music. You would also have to practice for a few hours a day. If you can't commit to practicing then you may want to think about some thing else.

There are no educational requirements for a professional pianist. It will be based on talent, and your ability to secure work. However, a degree in music would not hurt, and may give your advanced knowledge within music, to include composing, theory, networking, and more.

To teach within the public school system in the United States at the pre-K through high school levels, you must have a bachelor's degree in a teacher education program from a regionally accredited college or university and state teacher certification. This would take approximately four years as a full-time student, provided you take the program as prescribed by the college or university.
