Short Term The muscle cells in the body will use up more oxygen and produce more Carbon dioxide. The lungs will have to work harder to provide Oxygen and also remove Carbon dioxide. There will be an increase in breathing rate at the body will be trying hard to get as much oxygen as possible and to minimize the amount of oxygen debt. This will also happen after exercise as well as the body will have to repay the body's oxygen debt. Respiratory RateDuring Rest: 14 per minute During Exercise: 32 per minute Volume per breathe During Rest: 0.4 litres During Exercise: 2.4 litres Minute Volume During Rest: 5.6 litres During Exercise: 76.8 litres Long Term The muscles of the respiratory system such as the diaphragm and the intercostals muscles get stronger. This is so that they can make the chest cavity larger. Having a larger chest cavity means that you can also have a increased Vital capacity. This is because more air is able to be inspired. More capillaries are formed around the alveoli so that more gaseous exchange can take place and so that it is easier for it to happen. Gas exchange will also be able to happen more quickly meaning that exercise can be maintained at a higher intensity for longer.
After about a minute of hard (meaning makes you sweat) exercise your body has used all the stored oxygen so the respiratory rate increases. This is working the respiratory system so really the Diaphragm is having to contract and expand faster in order to force more air in and out of the lungs at a faster rate.
it makes your lungs have a larger capacity.

During exercise the muscle cells use up more oxygen and produce increased amounts of carbon dioxide. Your lungs and heart have to work harder to supply the extra oxygen and remove the carbon dioxide. Your breathing rate increases and you breathe more deeply. Heart rate also increases in order to transport the oxygenated blood to the muscles. Muscle cell respiration increases - more oxygen is used up and levels of carbon dioxide rise. The brain detects increasing levels of carbon dioxide - a signal is sent to the lungs to increase breathing. Breathing rate and the volume of air in each breath increase - This means that more gaseous exchange takes place. The brain also tells the heart to beat faster so that more blood is pumped to the lungs for gaseous exchange. More oxygenated blood is gets to the muscles and more carbon dioxide is removed.

I think it makes you able to inhale more oxygen in your lungs after a gradual time of this exercise it expands the air sacs and that's why swimmers don't start the sport of swimming just as normal that of a regular exercise is needed.

I've began to get your meaning. You meant not a respiratory exercise, but how exercises affects your respiratory system. But short term is not adequate on this question, because exercises, specially aerobic ones improve your respiratory system conditions not for a short term, but as long you remain doing such exercises, and the effects are almost the same as on other organs. I think this question should be done on another form.

What is the short term effect of exercise in the respiratory system?

The corticol motor will activate stimulating the pontine centers to modify VRG breathing rhythm. The VRG will make adjustments to the stimulus going to the respiratory centers

How does the respiratory system affect the cardiovascular system?

Aerobic exercise strengthens the ability of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems to provide oxygen to body tissues efficiently. In the short term, aerobic exercise increases heart and respiratory rates.

How exercise could influence the respiratory system in a positive way?

exercise can influence the respiratory system in a positive way because exercise gets blood pumping faster and makes the heart stronger. (the heart is a muscle by the way)

How do you know that exercise affect our respiratory system?

Because our respiratory system is part of our breathing and we all breath faster when we do exercise because the oxygen needs to get to the muscles quicker. Exercise also makes you fitter, so you will see an improvement on the respiratory system because your breathing will be more controlable... Therefore exercise defently effects the respiratory system :)
