It is important because when using the internet and or email everything is traced, and can be tracked. Therefore if unethical behavior is used it could be used in evidence against you, which in turn could cause you many problems later down the road.

The simple fact of not writing letters. If you look at it that it's the journey that makes things fun i.e taking a boat a train then driving instead of just the train, or making bread and taking all day instead of nipping down to the corner shop.

2. Permanence of the email and potential for discovery, monitoring by third parties, or inappropriate forwarding. Many US companies are moving toward policies whereby all email is deleted after a certain retention period, to prevent the legal requirement of providing relevant email during the discovery phase of a legal case.
