Australia's largest industry was tourism. I don't think so... Australia exports an enourmous amount of natural gas to SE Asia as well as steel, aluminium, iron ore, coal, wheat and wheat products. Australia also exports agricultural products such as meat, particularly lamb and wool as well as seafood. Australia is also the largest producer of industrial diamonds and grows about 30-40% of the entire world's legal opium crop for use in the worldwide pharmaceutical industry. The poppy farms are in Tasmania near the town of Launceston. Australia also produces about 20% of the domestic oil need from oil platforms in Bass Strait and off the Northwest Shelf in WA. From CIA World Fact Book - https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/print/as.html Exports - commodities: coal, iron ore, gold, meat, wool, alumina, wheat, machinery and transport equipment Exports - partners: Japan 18.9%, China 14.2%, South Korea 8%, US 6%, NZ 5.6%, India 5.5%, UK 4.2% (2007)
