Proteins are made up of chains of amino acids. The genetic information for protein synthesis is encoded by messenger RNA (mRNA). Processed mRNA has codons (each codon comprises of three nucleotides) , and each codon encodes a specific amino acid. The start and stop codon mark the beginning and termination of protein synthesis.

DNA contain a series of nucleotides that are transcripted by the RNA and then taken to the ribosome where the RNA translates the codes to line up series of amino acids that eventually forms a protien (amino acids are basic units of protein). Its all based on the sequence of amino acids that the DNA holds the blueprint to.

DNA codes for proteins and RNA. The message for proteins are normally transcribed as mRNA which is sent to the cytoplasm. The triplet codon in the mRNA makes the protein synthesis machinery to produce proteins as per the message on them.

What determines what proteins DNA code for?

The sequence of basis on the DNA molecule is what directs the sequence of amino acids in the protein molecule - that's how it all links together! So, the sequence of bases in DNA codes for the sequence of amino acids of a protein.

What molecule turns DNA to protein?

DNA doen't leave the nucleus but a copy of the segment (called mRNA) that codes for the protein leaves the cell and meets up with a ribosome. The ribosome will translate the copy of the DNA into a specific protein.
